WHAT IS ATHLETE’S FOOT, JOCK ITCH and RINGWORM?

Athlete’s Foot, Jock Itch and Ring Worm are all a type of fungal infection. You can get a fungal infection by touching a person who has one. Some fungi lives on damp surfaces , like shower or locker rooms. You can also pick up fungus from dogs, cats as well as farm animals especially when you see a patch of fur missing.  Most commonly Barber shop attendees and tennis shoe wearers  in some cases barbers will cut someone else’s  hair that has the fungus and spread or barbers will not take time to take clippers apart to clean between blades that will carry the fungus. Sneakers are primarily are made of rubber and tends to hold moisture therefore resulting in a damp environment for fungus to grow.

What areas of the body are affected by tinea (fungal) infections?

Fungal infections are named for the part of the body they infect. Tinea “Corporis” is Latin word for body. If you have this infection, you may see small ,red spots that grow into large rings almost anywhere on your arms, legs or chest. Tinea “Pedis” is a Latin word for foot. The moist skin between your toes is a perfect place for fungus to grow.
